Brinn Black / Daddy’s Medicine
As much as I like to say I wrote my song “Daddy’s Medicine,” its more like the song wrote me.
It came out in 30 minutes one day after my dad went to rehab for the first time. My brothers and I participated in the 4-day family program which broke open the lifetime of collateral damage I had been stuffing inside of me…in the best way possible. The process was such a rollercoaster of emotion, but we ended up with more healing than any of us could have ever imagined.
The day I wrote “Daddy’s Medicine”, I was reflecting on those 4 days, and wrapping my head around what had just happened, as well as everything we had all endured as a result of my dad’s disease, and I'm pretty sure the song is everything I wanted to say as a kid but never had the words to. I'm so grateful for the power of music and my Dad for showing me that people in recovery live more fulfilled lives than most people who have never had to deal with the disease of addiction…family members included. For that, I am forever grateful.
